How Can I Save My Marriage When My Partner Strays

Infidelity can destroy a marriage in an instant. What greater betrayal can a person experience than having their partner go outside of the relationship to satisfy their sexual needs. You ask yourself "How can I save my marriage?" Is there hope to save a marriage when this cheating occurs? The answer to that question really depends on two things: why the cheating took place and whether it will happen again.

There is never a good reason to cheat on a spouse. Although many excuses are often used, going beyond the marriage to find physical or emotional comfort is just not acceptable. That's not to say that the innocent spouse cannot be forgiving. But to save the marriage, he or she needs to know why the transgression happened in the first place. It may be easier (but not easy) to forgive a spouse who drank too much and made a horrible error in judgement, than it would be to find out that the cheating spouse has a craving for one night stands with strangers. The reason behind the infidelity is key.

Another factor in determining whether a marriage can be rescued is whether or not the non-cheating spouse believes that the infidelity will happen again. It's a tall order to ask someone to believe that it will never transpire in the future. The level of trust goes down to zero when a spouse strays. In order to save the marriage, the guilty party will have to convince their partner that this was a one time event.

Although infidelity does not mean that the relationship is over for good, it does severely damage the foundation that the marriage was built on. Is there hope to save a marriage when one spouse strays really depends on the cheating spouse answering two key questions: why did the infidelity occur and will it happen again. Unless he can provide answers that bring the trust level back up, it will be almost impossible to continue the relationship.
